Have had a great weekend in The City. Amongst other things, I have:
- Bought new shoes, fit for the bro's wedding.
- Went to my pal's going away party, and received a secret update on his plans to propose to his GF in two weeks time... huzzah!
- Slept in... bliss.
- Had the older bro and the fiancee over for lunch to discuss wedding plans including, amongst other things, heart-shaped cupcakes with crystallised rose petals.
- Drinks with a friend / former mentor type who was in town from Oxford for a few weeks, who announced that he and his new wife are having a baby. Fabulous!
- Dinner at a friend's with lovely people and good food and wine.
- I got all the new test tables written as of Thurs night.
- I just ran 3 (of 4) tables and there were only minor protocol issues (no bugs) - all of which are now corrected & reprinted
- I completed 12 hrs of testing in under 7 hrs.
- I brought our total planned test time to under 60 hrs (with 9 week days & 3 people to do it)
- I found an unrelated bug and got info to the developer so he can fix it Monday, so we don't lose any more test time.
I don't have to work Sunday!!!
I will be able to go to workout Mon night!!!
I might not have to work next weekend - and maybe not even insane hours next week!!!
WOOOOOOT!!
I'm going home now (8:15p) to water the plants, feed the cats, and crash. Tomorrow I'll be driving back down this way to check out the free Health Expo at the fairgrounds and, hopefully, take a spin on Nicole's pole - thereby earning a free class from her. If all goes well, I'll also check out the swapmeet and have a couple beers. If all doesn't go well... I'll think of something.
STRESS = REDUCED!!
I'm in Alexandria, VA, tonight to attend a training tomorrow and Monday at the Center for Missing and Exploited Children, which they put on for police chiefs, sheriffs, prosecutors, and other officials in positions indirectly related to law enforcement, such as myself. I've heard that it's a great training, and I'm really looking forward to it.
So I'm staying at the Hotel Monoco Alexandria, which I wouldn't be if my own agency were paying for it. This is where the Center put me up. There are also four weddings going on in the hotel this weekend, so I'm going to be very underdressed. Anyone have any advice they want me to pass on to the happy couples?

That NIN show must be hittin' pretty hard!
Wow. Pulled a miracle out of nowhere again and I actually get to go home tonight!! I could start testing now but, since I already mentally geared up for working the weekend, I've decided to leave "early" tonight and just do everything tomorrow. If all goes well, I may even get out at a reasonable hour on Sat, NOT work on Sunday, AND go to workout Monday night. IT'S A MIRACLE!!
Things are just fallin into place all of sudden! I've been thinking I'd have to sell my KCRW concert ticket - and the show gets cancelled (full refund). Worried about Moshi - he ends up with a clean bill of health. Expected to loose half of the workouts I paid for (cause work sched would prevent me from attending any makeups) - but they extended the session to the end of the month and I think I'm going to be able to attend on work nights after all.
Of course, this is all going to blow up in my face come Mon or Tues. But, right now, I actually feel in control of my schedule and that I WON'T have to work like a maniac through the 19th.
Totally unrelated, don't I neeeeeed this wig? I mean, with Miss Kitty's going weekly again, and halloween coming up... that's plenty of opp to wear it. And it looks big enough to cover my mass of hair (I have a problem finding wigs that fit). I have a discount code that makes it only $10.13 plus shipping (reg $11.25). Ooops, I boughted it.
Got the lab results while I was driving in to work: No bacteria, no blahblahblah, no other blahblahblah, high protein level but that's normal after an infection, recurrence NOT likely. HOOOORRRAAAAAAYYYYY!
Glad I took the call! I almost didn't because I was driving and didn't know if I had my earpiece with me (nor where it would be if I did). Finally, I figured what the hell... risk the fine... I was mostly stopped in a traffic jam anyway. But, despite my speed demon habit (driving to/from work at about 85mph), it was really difficult for me to consciously break the law.
Still stuck in the traffic jam, I followed up the call with deciding to eat my lunch (burger), and promptly spilling it all over myself. Classy!! I think it's a nice accent to my office attire of flipflops, weekend pants, and Vox shirt. Granted, it's "casual friday" - but I still took it to an extreme. I'm justifying that move with "I have a LOT to do tonight; the comfier I am, the more I'll get done!"
Got to work and found, surprisingly, nothing was ready for me. Then we had a false fire alarm (2nd this week!)... which resulted in me getting a tentative invite to vacation in Jamaica. Probably won't work out - but nice to know the option is there!!
Despite my insane efforts to get the new test tables ready by last night (worked till almost midnight), the software and other tables aren't done. So I have a wee bit of a respite right now. But I'm still coming in this weekend to get a jump start on testing because I don't want to be sweating results at the 11th hour (Sept 18).
What else, what else, what else?
The KCRW concert was cancelled. Refunds are pending. Ticketholders were emailed with first opp for an intimate mini-concert with k.d.lang but I can't decide whether or not I want to go to that. Opinions?
Miss Kitty's is returning, as a weekly club, on Sept 12. Hurrahhhh! The kinda-montly option wasn't working out for me - they always seemed to be held when I had other plans. A weekly option is MUCH better!! It looks like Christo, one of my favs of the group, may no longer be part of it. That bums me out - but I need to do some investigating before I know if that's really true.
Now that Moshi is outside all day, Boo has finally begun to mellow out - far less hissing and attitude. She tried to pick a fight with ME last night (she got on the bed, rolled into me, then got pissed off that my body was touching hers) and was quickly reminded that it is not appropriate behaviour. I guess the Feliway didn't work on her. But it was still remarkable as far as helping Moshi and mellowing Espressa!!
I got a big lot of nothing else so I think I'll harrass Ryan then get to work.
...is what I am currently drinking. It is some sort of Thai (I think?) drink with lychee juice (and about a tonne of sugar). It is bright pink, has chunks of slimy lychee goodness in it, and is like a fuzzy pink hit to the brain. Oh so bad but oh so good. Now if I follow this up with a diet coke, I'll be spinning.
I will be posting a lot less over the next few weeks as I am heading off on an epic work trip bonanza - interstate, then up north, then to The City. It is possibly a sign of my never-ending technological addiction, but I'm going to miss reading my neighbourhood every morning, commenting on other people's blogs and just writing total crap about my small little life. Adios amigos!
